My name is William Kenneth Norris "Bill" and I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in the town of Wexford as well. Outside of the fire company, I am a full-time machinist for a company in the North Hills area. I joined the fire service on August 18th, 1988 and have been with the Wexford Volunteer Fire Compay ever since. I am currently active with the company and serve as a captain, and have previously served as a board member, vice president, president, lieutenant and assistant chief.
I also have training certificates in Basic Vehicle Rescue Awareness, Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician, Class “A” Foam Compressed Air Foam Systems, Command School 2003, Electricity And The Firefighter, Essentials Of Firefighting, Firefighter And The Law, Fire Fighter Safety NFPA, First Responder Operations IAFF, Fundamentals Of Firefighting, Hazmat R & I, Heart Saver AED/CPR, MSA SCBA Level 1 General Maintenance, Rapid Intervention Team Concepts, Respiratory Protection 1, Standard First Aid, Structural Burn Session, Structural Collapse Operations Level 1, Structural Fire Rescue, West Penn Evidence And Crime Lab.
What I enjoy the most about being a volunteer firefighter is being able to work with a group of people, from different walks of life, to complete the tasks of both the emergency and the business ends of the fire company. Sometimes it amazes me how such a diverse pool of people can work so well together when duty calls. Sure it sometimes take compromise, an open mind, and a willingness to change but it is all worth it when you stop a house from burning to the ground, or rescue a person from being entrapped in a vehicle crash and are able to manage the companies finances well enough to purchase new trucks and gear to make the members jobs safer and easier to do.
