Wexford Volunteer Fire Company

MEMBERSHIP

The Wexford Volunteer Fire Company is made up of men and women from the Township of Pine and surrounding areas ranging from 14 to over 70 years of age.  Each year, 40 to 50 members provide over 4000 man-hours of time in training, responding to calls, and company business.  All of our members do this on a volunteer basis and do not collect a paycheck for their services.  Check the officer and membership rosters to learn more about the people who make up the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company.

Is volunteer firefighting for you?
Membership with us does not have to involve running into a burning building.  There are so many other jobs and activities that we do that make volunteer opportunties with us almost limitless.   Read on to learn about the various membership classifications available with the Fire Company.  If you are interested in talking to someone about joining now, send an email to tflaherty@twp.pine.pa.us
or leave a message at (724)935-1491.

Administrative Member
The administrative member position was created for those people who have no interest in responding to emergencies or running into burning buildings, but would like to volunteer their time and talents in some other way.  Other than an orientation to the company, this position requires no formal fire training.  Administrative members can do anything from website help to assisting with events such as our Manor Road Halloween Parade or Santa Express.  The possibilities are almost limitless.

Structural Firefighter
The structural firefighter position is for those who want to go the full nine yards.  New members without previous fire service training must complete the 166-hour PA Essentials of Firefighting program that is offered at the various local fire academies and community colleges.  Due to the length of the program, we give new members the flexibility to complete this program at their own pace, as it is offered four different modules.  While a member is going through this program, they are considered a probationary support firefighter, which means they can help out with exterior operations only.

Support Firefighter
The support firefighter position was created for those people who would like to help out at emergencies, but not necessarily inside a burning building.  This status is also given to new members who are trying to complete the PA Essentials of Firefighting program.  Members who want to function as a support firefighter must complete portions of the PA Essentials program and in house training.

Junior Firefighter
Teenagers can get involved in the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company through our junior firefighter program.  Anyone aged 14 to 17 is eligible to enroll.  In this program, junior members are given the opportunity to learn about firefighting through a controlled environment.  We must follow all child labor laws regarding junior members, so they cannot fight actual fires or participate in certain types of emergency responses.  Juniors can participate in various training drills and many other activities.   Teenagers can also join the junior program and particpate in adminstrative roles instead of firefighting.
