Wexford Volunteer Fire Company

Rob Hetzel

FireFighter/Engineer

My name is Robert Charles Hetzel and I was born at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA on May 19, 1977 and have lived in the North Hills all of my life. I attended the Pennsylvania College of Technology and Connelly Vo-tech and earned an A.A.S. in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning with a certificate in Plumbing. I also earned a Journeyman Plumbing License from ACHD as well. My current job outside of the fire company is as a Maintenance Employee for the North Allegheny School District (Plumbing and HVAC).

I joined the fire service on February 3, 2000 at the age of 22 with the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company and have been an active member ever since. I currently hold the position of firefighter and I am the main engineer/pump operator for Engine 5 which runs out of Station 2 as well. I am also a member of the fire company live-in program at the Babcock, Station 2 where I live and help maintain the station and apparatus that are housed there. My training certificates include The Essentials of Firefighting, Fire Fighter 1, Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician, Hazmat Operations, Pump Operations 1, Structural Collapse Level 1, Rope Rescue Level 1 and Firefighter Safety and Survival.

What I enjoy the most about being a volunteer firefighter is that as firefighters, we help our community in time of need. I also like the camaraderie of our department and the technical aspects of the fire department appeals to me as well.
