My name is Hot Dog and I am the official fire safety mascot of the New York City Fire Department. I joined the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company in the fall of 2003. My responsibilty is in fire prevention education for preschool and kindergarten aged children. Sometimes young children get scared when firefighters visit their school. I stay in a bag of props that the firefighters use to educate children on fire safety and they bring me out early in the presentation to help make a connection and break the ice. Most children agree that I help to make the experience much less scary and actually kind of fun.
