One potentially immense benefit of joining the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company is access to a full scholarship to the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC). Allegheny County and CCAC have partnered to provide the scholarship to residents who commit to serving as a firefighter for at least five years with a volunteer fire company in the county. The scholarship pays for tuition and books for any CCAC degree or certificate program that an applicant can be accepted into. In return, applicants must commit to completing training to become a firefighter and serve for at least five years within the county. You must be sponsored by a volunteer fire company in Allegheny County to apply. The Wexford Volunteer Fire Company sponsors members that wish to apply for the FireVEST scholarship.
This is a tremendous opportunity for anyone looking to start a post-secondary education, change careers, or simply learn something new. The requirement to serve as a volunteer firefighter is a commitment that should not be taken lightly however, we believe it is a win-win scenario because serving as a firefighter has many rewards itself. Check out our recruitment page here to learn more about serving as a volunteer firefighter.
Application deadlines are May 15 for the fall semester and November 15 for the spring semester. Our application process takes about two months to become a sworn member of the Wexford VFC. If you have an interest in becoming a firefighter and applying for FireVEST, plan your application for membership with us accordingly. Already interested, and want to learn more?
