2009 Police Ford Explorer
The Command vehicle is a take home vehicle that is shared between the chief and assistant chief. Each officer takes a duty week with the Command vehicle. Other line officers have also used the vehicle when the chief officers were not available. It features a mobile radio and a MDT terminal to access the Allegheny County 911 CAD system, and other programs. This vehicle was put into service in 2014 after being purchased from the Northern Regional Police Department. It has been a low cost trial to experiment with a take home command vehicle program. The program has been a success, and we plan to replace this vehicle with a new SUV in 2018 that will be better equipped to run command duties from the rear cargo area.
