October Recap
Fall is probably the busiest time of the year for our organization with events and activities, and they all come to a peak in October. With fire prevention month, we provided fire safety education to approximately 800 children at the preschool and grade school level through school visits and station tours. We also held our annual Kids’ Halloween Party and Costume Contest. This event has grown each year since the event was switched from a parade and contest at Salem Church on Manor Road to a party at our station. We were excited to have close to 200 people at this year’s event! Planning has already begun on how to improve next year’s Halloween Party. We also participated in one neighborhood Halloween Parade, and some members provided extra eyes in the community during Trick or Treat hours by driving department vehicles around the neighborhoods.
The pace of calls was a little slower in October with 29 total calls. Accidents and fire alarms occurred most frequently. There were a couple minor fires including a stove fire and cigarette disposal. Between calls, events, and the regular meetings and training sessions, we also found to take a night off for our annual member appreciation banquet. The event was a nice evening of fellowship, food, entertainment and recognition held at the Pine Community Center.
As we head into the last couple months of the year, look for us at the Pine Holiday Dazzle event on November 17, and our own Santa Express event (where we bring Santa around the neighborhoods on a fire truck) on December 15.
