Updated: Sep 25

Day shift participated in station rappelling training.
INCIDENTS

July was a relatively slow month for the Wexford VFC with 97 calls to service: 52 fire-based responses and 45 QRS responses. Crews responded to a number of 1A assignments within the district and throughout the region. Our average response time to emergency incidents was 6 minutes and 2 seconds, and a total of 27 members responded to incidents this month.

Here is our incident breakdown by major incident category for July:
  • Fire – 5

  • Hazardous Condition (no fire) – 8

  • Overpressure Rupture / Explosion / Overheat - 1

  • Rescue / QRS – 44

  • Service Call – 4

  • Good Intent – 27

  • False Alarm / False Call - 8

TOTAL – 97

NOTABLE INCIDENT

Early in the month, crews were dispatched for a residential fire alarm activation in Pine. EN1 responded within 2 minutes of dispatch and was updated of additional activations. Crews arrived on scene to find a delivery truck had pulled the neutral wire from the residence, causing a moderate smoke condition and electrical fault inside. Crews forced entry, isolated the power, and laddered & ventilated the structure. An outlet and surge protector had caught fire but was isolated at the time of FD arrival, so significantly more damage was inevitable had it not been for the quick response of station staff.
